Natural History Revitalised
Inspiring People to Reconnect with the Natural World
Blue Tokay is a young touring exhibition company specialising in vibrant natural history exhibitions. Since its launch two years ago, things have progressed nicely and the owners are currently speaking to potential clients and securing the hire of the exhibitions at a number of venues. It seems that people are very interested in the idea of having a natural history exhibition in their venues as the subject matter appeals to a wide audience.
Natural history can be difficult to display well. It is expensive and can sometimes be difficult for venues to get new specimens commissioned; and displaying older specimens is not always an option. Blue Tokay are finding that venues really like the fresh and dynamic way that their displays are presented. The venues also like the fact that Blue Tokay not only install the exhibition, but also supply all the support material including learning worksheets and workbooks.
Asked about their favourite exhibition so far, Blue Tokay owners Pip and Nicola told us “we love our ‘British wildlife’ exhibition. This is a ten case exhibition of taxidermy and models of specimens found throughout the British Isles. The exhibition highlights iconic ‘British’ animals, some of which are quite common, but all are species we rarely get to see up close. The displays can be hired individually with each one having its own interpretation and images, or in any number up to the full ten case exhibition. This flexibility allows even the smallest venue to display the whole exhibition and not a cut-down version. The displays have QR coded information which allows access to more information, images and AV. We have developed the displays so that each specimen sits on a plinth within the case; these plinths are black and include the graphic panels. All in all the cases look crisp, clean and stylish and, with the black finish, will go into any space and look great.”

In our business the exhibition venues can vary from stately homes to museums to visitor centres. These cases are modern but do not overshadow the specimens or the room in which they are placed.
