Watching Oprah: The Oprah Winfrey Show and American Culture

This was the inaugural special temporary exhibition staged by the NMAAHC in 2018, telling the story of Oprah Winfrey’s life and her daytime talk show that spanned 25 years. Through this exhibition, NMAAHC explored the themes of gender, power and the media within contemporary American history and culture.

In 2017, Click Netherfield was commissioned by Smithsonian Institution, National Museum of African American History & Culture to design, manufacture and supply 39 TESS Demountable showcases to house original artefacts from Harpo Studios in Chicago – the home of The Oprah Winfrey Show for over two decades – along with other items from the personal collection of Oprah Winfrey.

The flexibility and security of the Tess system is perfectly suited to the demands of such a significant temporary exhibition.
