Location: Bishop Museum, Honolulu
In 2006, the Bishop Museum in Honolulu opened an exhibition of the largest, most extensive display of Hawaiian feather work ever shown at the Castle Memorial Building Treasures Gallery.
Drawing from the largest collection of Hawaiian feather work in the world, “Na Hulu Ali’i: Royal Feathers” features more than 40 pieces, including rarely seen pieces from the museum’s founding collections related to the Kamehameha dynasty and other Hawaiian monarchs. A series of individual TESS Evolution cases were comprised in differing formats to show off the magnificent collection of Royal Feathers. The durability and exceptional craftmanship of these showcases is clear, as they are still in regular use nearly 20 years later.
Since the inaugural Royal Feathers exhibition, The Bishop Museum staff have utilised their Evolution cases in dozens of exhibitions, one such titled “Taxonomy – Our Lives Depend On It”, is also depicted below.
